Summer veggies saute

nightshades veggies such as tomatoes and egg plants can be too yin.
and some people are sensitive to the alkaloids that they contain, and may cause inflammation.
cooking with strong yang seasonings such as miso, they can be slightly neutralized.

so i cooked locally grown, fresh tomatoes and japanese egg plants with miso sauce.
great with both sake or wine : )

Shiroae salad

using mashed tofu, i made this white creamy dressing called shiroae.
with pressed veggies, hijiki seaweed, steamed water cress, and season with miso, ume vinegar, tahini, soy sauce, then add roasted walnuts.

Cucumber and mekabu salad

I got a lot of cucumbers from a friend.
i cut into matchstick, pressed with sea salt, and mix with ume vinegar/brown rice b=vinegar and mekabu sea weed.
eating cold, very summery and refreshing : )

Detox lunch

After weekends of eating out/drink, this is my typical monday "detox" lunch.
brown rice, miso soup, natto(fermented soy beans), greens and root veggie stew.
simple, yet covers all the necessary nutrients.

Soba salad

soba or buckwheat salad.
pressed cucumber, radish and celery, and steamed watercress.
the dressing is grated ginger, soy sauce, brown rice vinegar, ,lemon juice, and sesame oil.
topped with toasted nori sea weed.
yum!

wherever i go....

my breakfast is always brown rice porridge and miso soup.
even on fire island : )

Dinner on Fire Island

There weren't many choices when it comes to fish there.
so i got salmon ----i barely eat salmon, by the way.

before i left home, i made this vegan cilantro pesto sauce, so i used it for the sauce.

side dishes were brown rice-summer risotto, and arugula/avocado salad.
great with wines : )

Pasta with local ingredients : )

This summer's pick.
organic whole wheat "angel hair" pasta!
takes only 3 minutes to cook, so you don't need to be in the kitchen for long in the hot summer day : )

Using freshest ingredients from farmer's market, such as onions, tomatoes, garlic, broccoli, cilantro, and even clams!---yes, there is a fisherman's tent at union square market where they sell local fish/sea foods.

simple seasonings (sea salt, pepper, olive oil, and vegan "butter", sake or white wine and hint of soy sauce.

great summer pasta : )
